My Dilemma: I can't stand the yellow any longer. I want a color scheme that will flow seamlessly into the living room, without making the two rooms feel like one, big open room. The kitchen should be a light pastel that will complement a deeper, cozier-feeling shade of the living room.

Cozy is good and you'll find it with these two colors. Try Timid White for the light pastel in your kitchen and Light Khaki for your living room. The Light Khaki has a nice green undertone and is a very cozy color.
